Indie singer/songwriter Zak Younger Banks releases a new song ‘Running Out Of Luck’

Glasgow and Newcastle based Zak Younger Banks adds to his distinctive catalog of low-fi ambient folktronica with a new single Running out of Luck, released on 3rd December. The track’s emotive lyrics and stripped-back fingerstyle guitar alternate with synth bass-driven choruses, layered with electronic sounds and manipulated vocals in a dynamic and affecting track.

Zak’s genre-fusing arrangements and writing have already gained attention, drawing a comparison with artists such as Bon Iver, James Blake, and Leonard Cohen.

Running out of Luck’s release will be accompanied by a single secret gig in Glasgow. Zak will also be performing at Resonate Live in Glasgow on 14th November alongside Rascalton, Awkward Family Portraits, Scarlett Randle, Zak Younger Banks, Billy Got Waves + Joell and Grayling.

Biog:  Newcastle and Glasgow based indie/folk singer-songwriter Zak Younger Banks is currently studying at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, and his music and writing is influenced by his involvement in traditional folk music as well as his interest in alternative and electronic music. Zak combines emotionally raw vocals, poetic lyrics and intricate guitar arrangements with ambient electronic sounds and distortions to create original and distinctive songs.

2019 has seen Zak perform regularly at venues including the Sage Gateshead and the Blue Arrow Jazz Club, sharing the stage with artists such as Martha Hill, George Ogilvie, Emma Gillespie, and Amy Papiransky. His live shows incorporate electronics into sets and Zak often plays with a small band including keys players Sophie Joint and Michael Biggins, and percussionists Seoras Lewis and Callum Convoy. Zak also worked on an exciting collaborative project with folk and jazz musicians from the North East and Scotland, at a Summer Studios residency at Sage Gateshead.

His self-released debut EP, Wrong Turns (2018), is a collection of original songs and instrumental music which he recorded in Port Appin in the Scottish Highlands, and was received well on a mini-tour of venues in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Newcastle and London. His second release, I’m Not Made Of Stone (February 2019), for which Zak continued to produce, mix and master, this time in his flat in Glasgow, gained airplay on BBC Introducing and Nova Radio, and was followed by launch shows and support gigs in Glasgow and Newcastle.
