From a young age electronic producer VOLO, had seamlessly perfected the art of audio production. His cinematic sound resonated with intense spiritual and creative dexterity. Channelling from the old school electronic aesthetic of Boards of Canada, VOLO put his own spin on it and provided a fresh and forward-thinking sound.
VOLO had artful pulled together world instruments, ethereal sound and driving synths. With careful crafting textures of his sound, he leaves his fans discovering a new detail with every track they listen to.
Describe your sound for us. What do you want people to feel when they hear your music?
There isn’t a specific feeling. It varies quite a bit throughout my music depending on how I’m feeling and what’s inspiring during that time. But I hope people will connect with the story of each song. I put a lot of intentions into all of the textures/ambiences and creating a sort of environment within each song to get lost into. I can say a lot more with a melody than I could ever speak with words, so I hope people will also connect with each melody & progression on a deep level.
Which 3 artists have influenced you the most growing up?
Boards of Canada, Chrome Sparks, Emancipator.
How did you discover your particular sound?
A lot of experimentation over the years, it came about naturally.
What are the most important pieces of equipment to you?
Ableton Push, Laptop, Headphones.
What outside of music inspires you to create?
Open nature/hiking, feeling of being awestruck and deep meditative/trance states.
If you could work with, or perform alongside any artist living or passed, who would it be?
Lately, I’ve been really digging the production of Bwoy De Bhajan & Kodak to Graph, would be cool to start a project with either of them.
Most artists say that if they weren’t artists they would be mailmen/women… what would you be?
It’s hard to say! I definitely have other passions (yoga, cooking, video editing/web design, art,) but I’ve really committed so much of myself to music so who knows what would have come about if I didn’t choose this path.
What can we expect from you in the near future? Any upcoming projects or gigs in the pipeline that you would like to tell us about?
At the moment I have quite a few collaboration projects that I’m very excited about. It’s been a while since I’ve done much collaborating with other artists so it’s been fun and exciting. I also have a new EP that’s starting to take shape.
