Heart-rendering, eevee and cliffe’s latest mastermind collaboration ‘villain’ is a lamenting composition that creaks with dark overtones and haunting vocal melodies. eevee is known for her lo-fi magic, once again waving her wand, setting a stunning instrumental behind cliffe’s sauntering vocals, which feel reminiscent of the grunge era.

With a distinctly Cobain edge, cliffe sings under his breath, as if the words are too difficult to say, but he knows they need to be said. He touches on themes of addiction and self-destruction, topics that are all too often considered too taboo to speak about, yet sings about them anyway. Mimicking his inner turmoil, unevenly strummed guitars ring out dissonantly, accurately embodying the cloudy mood of personal struggle.

In ‘villain’ (out via Secret Souls imprint) he personifies his eternal adversary, exploring the challenges of being his own worst enemy. He knows that over time, resigning himself to this darker half will only serve to cause ‘hella damage’. Perfectly imperfect, this single is a chest-aching lullaby we’ll happily put on repeat.
