Gothenburg musician sir Was (real name Joel Wästberg) has released “Revoke”, the first single off his much-anticipated debut album Digging A Tunnel, due out on March 10th through City Slang.
The former jazz saxophonist, who cites a large array of influences on his music – from Moondog to D’Angelo and The Mahavishnu Orchestra – has attracted a lot of attention for his playful, creative blending of the soul, hip hop and electronica genres.
The video for “Revoke” was directed by Fredrik Egerstrand, a previous collaborator with sir Was, who says that there “is a common feeling in all the videos we try to accomplish. They all grow from… a working class point of view. There is no stylish things going on, but hopefully there is human touch in every video.” The musician himself echoes these sentiments, reflecting that “we might be stuck with our situation in life, our regrets and our wish for things to be different from what they are, but sometimes between our dreams of something else there are glimpses of beauty and the ability to enjoy it.”
