Robot Koch and BlankFor.ms have shared their latest interstellar collaboration, ‘Migratory, under Trees and Cyborgs. The stars have aligned for ‘Migratory’, an amoeba of ambiance that will grip you and keep you in your seat for the duration of its lifespan.

Adding tape skips and vinyl dust to their composition, the pair allow imperfections to shine throughout their production, even exaggerating the organic textures one would normally only encounter playing an old record or cassette that is barely being held together by scotch tape. Many small yet stimulating moments occur at the edge of hearing, dangling on a string like a musical mobile that orbits around a central planetary bass drum. Together, they crackle and flicker in open space before turning supernova.

The beauty here lies in the serendipity; sounds ricochet off each other to produce warm fluttering noises and fascinating cascades that sound like they were generated by turning knobs and connecting cables on a modular synthesizer. Glitchy and expansive, the song is a ball of controlled chaos that, like mercury, morphs and adapts. With a life of its own, this lifeform craves rhythm and feeds on distortion.
