Pocket Lint, the brainchild of Mark Heffernan, is poised to unveil the single ‘Wunderkammer’ on June 26, 2026. Heffernan’s journey began at London’s Guitar Institute in 1999 and 2000, but he soon traded technical precision for a more instinctive, emotionally charged approach. After years away from music, he resurfaced in 2020, dusting off songs from his earlier band before launching Pocket Lint, with a brief, glittering stop in the world of amethyst cameo carving. Inspired by icons like David Bowie, Roxy Music, Soft Cell, The Human League, Japan, Magazine, and Ryuichi Sakamoto, and guided by the lush lyricism of Shelley and Coleridge, Heffernan crafts music where story and atmosphere intertwine. His album Gallery was spotlighted as Bandcamp’s New & Notable, and the single ‘Cyanometer’ drew praise from Moonbuilding Zine.
‘Wunderkammer’ takes inspiration from the German tradition of the cabinet of curiosities, reimagining the song as a sonic gallery filled with the strange, the beautiful, and the deeply felt. Heffernan’s process was steeped in the atmosphere of museums, galleries, forgotten artefacts, literature, and fragments of history, turning the single into a carefully curated masterpiece. This method let him paint with sound, fusing mood and story at every turn. The track glimmers with synths, noir-tinged lyrics, and bold, experimental arrangements, conjuring the thrill of stepping into a mysterious new world. Romantic poetry breathes life into its emotional and visual world, where pastoral scenes, ancient echoes, and mechanical rhythms mingle, and moments of darkness are brightened by the juxtaposition of the imagery found during the romantic era of literature.
For the first time, Heffernan invited outside professionals to help shape and elevate his sonic vision. By recording full live performances, weaving in lush pedal textures, and letting analogue soundscapes evolve organically instead of relying on loops and rigid programming, he keeps the single’s intimacy intact while opening it up to new horizons.
Mark Heffernan had this to say: “A Wunderkammer has no such pretensions. All it hopes to do is present objects that the owner thinks are beautiful or interesting. By doing so, they create a multi-faceted mirror. This is my Wunderkammer.”
