Lazy electronica Sunday afternoons with Holo

Holo, Floating Points, Bicep, French 79 and Rone

A Sunday afternoon opens before you: the gentle dappled sun falling through the trees onto a patch of grass in which you lay. Slowly, the world turns beneath your back as the occasional cloud makes its way across the sky. Holo’s latest single, ‘In Limbo’ is on in the background and for a brief moment, the rest of the world doesn’t exist. A mix of good vibes and clever production style set the single apart – hinting at the upcoming EP of the same name.

Holo is a rising producer from Melbourne, Australia who grabbed the attention of the French Houseum sub-label Ellipse Records. Curious to learn more about the producer? We’d suggest checking out the in-depth interview between Holo and Chill Music here. It’s just two weeks until the release of his sophomore EP, In Limbo and we have the date marked in our calendar. We’re definitely curious about the next steps this creative producer is taking – most likely big ones from what we’ve seen so far.

Hugo Horwood, aka Holo, takes us through the single: “This is the first track I produced for this EP, and it set the tone in my mind for how I wanted the record to sound. It combines disco and pop samples, breakbeat drums and my own guitar and bass playing, and I remember thinking when writing it, “this shouldn’t work”. The bell at 1:04 is from a field recording of a Melbourne tram, and will be instantly recognisable if you’re from Melbourne! My favourite part of the track is the last minute or so, where the strings and choral parts sneak up and shift the mood from fun to something more melancholic – like how you might feel at end of a party.”
