Downtempo duo rocomoco walk us through our favourite tracks on ‘Into The Blue’

Downtempo lo-fi duo rocomoco have released their debut album Into The Blue via Aviary Day on Aviary Bridge Records Ltd. The album is characterised by jazzy, lulling beats and general feel-good vibes. We take a stroll through the album, and the duo gives some insight into a few of our favourite tracks:

Opening with title track ‘Into The Blue’ – which contrary to the colour’s association with despondency, speaks of embracing a beautiful, bright future.

rocomoco explain: “When you are feeling blue you are more on the dark side of things. But this track wants to get you out there. It is a warm summer breeze. The open sky is showcasing its most eternal blue. This tune is an invitation to move on brave and with high hopes into a better and brighter future full of chances and beautiful opportunities.”

A firm Reverbs favorite, the delicate piano sounds and laid-back melody of ‘Grooveshop (with Hoffy Beats)’ centres around a Mediterranean groove-bar, and Hoffy’s jazz chords and piano licks formed the basis of what became the chilled atmospheric beat.

Like sunlight shining through the leaves of a tree, ‘Aurola (with Bastilo)’ is a glimmering bastion,  created with an artist that the duo was extremely keen to collaborate with. rocomoco set the scene for us: “A dignified old villa. Komorebi shines in a dusty room. An old piano in the corner. The bass and the good vibes of the last club night are still in the bones. You approach the piano, open the lid and start with the first 3 chords you always start when you grab your instrument. We created this shimmering gem with Bastido, who was on top of our wish-to-collaborate-list.”

‘Warm Flicker’ reminisces the days before the digital landscape, before human interaction was merely talking to a screen. ‘Warm Flicker’ sentimentally looks back to real-life moments when the flame of a candle and a good friend had been enough to fill your heart with warmth. By evoking cosy illusions of social participation and attention LED monitors have replaced the candles. They are keeping us entertained and they are holding us back from asking and overthinking too much” says rocomoco

‘Years’ is one of the album’s more experimental tracks, and is a melting pot of ideas. “Electronica meets Lofi Hip Hop. ‘Years’ is a walk down memory lane. An accessible experimental sound collage of broken pianos, raw guitar sample cuts and synthetic sounds glued together by a laid back hip hop groove.” the duo explains.

Some More Luck (with Tabi)’ is a do-over of a track from the Aviary Bridge Winter Compilation 2020 – which rocomoco featured on. ‘Some Luck’ by Tabi had a few more bpm’s added, and a field recording of early morning swallows in a small town – creating the captivating single.  “A New Order vibe on valium” the duo says.

Closing with ‘Clouds’ which rocomoco describes as “A childhood moment when you are falling in love with the beauty of clouds for the first time and you begin to wish that they would never leave” Into The Blue is a transformative sound journey. Emerging on the other side with a renewed sense of serenity, the listener won’t be able to shake the feeling that maybe everything is going to be alright. Listen below.
