Russian-born soprano opera vocalist Maria Matveeva along with French multi-instrumentalist and electronic composer Eric Mouquet, best known for recording under the moniker Deep Forest share their latest collaborative single, titled “Kalinushka”. The new single is taken from the experimental duo’s upcoming “ethnic electronica” based collaborative project and three-part EP, aptly titled Siberian Trilogy Project, scheduled December 21st release and self-released by Matveeva herself.
Maria Matveeva has garnered a stand-out flair for consistency and has worked alongside or collaborated with heroic musicians and producers such as David Bowie’s pianist, Mike Garson, most notable for working tightly with artists and bands from Nine Inch Nails to The Smashing Pumpkins, from Italian-born pianist, keyboardist, conductor and composer Alessandro Alessandroni Jr to drummer, producer, and photographer Alex Elena.
Although Maria Matveeva may be best recognised for her empowering, yet vulnerable career in the opera world, she has always had an interest for experimentation within the regions of so many different kinds of styles, attributions and vigorously rich presentation which has led to this unique and sophisticated fusion of influences from mystical mythology to mother nature’s quivering siren song.
Maria Matveeva and Deep Forest’s latest, “Kalinushka” comes ahead of their mystifying and traditionally inspired upcoming project, Siberian Trilogy Project. The track develops and builds upon uniquely layered unison harmonies surrounded by Matveeva’s outstanding vocal performance, backed by ethereal synthesisers which wax and wane before emitting a blooming and melodically electronic segment confidently secured by Mouquet; as complimentary synthesisers whirl and flow into robust percussive arrangements and customarily ethnic atmospheres conjured up by the deities themselves.
