Producer and Accidental Records label head Matthew Herbert has announced a compilation album that celebrates emerging leftfield, experimental and polyrhythmic artists. The album compilation is titled Antechamber Music and is set for official release on the 30th of July. The album will feature a diverse range of artists like Liam Carey and Oram Awards winner Loula Yorke. Today we are pleased to exclusively present one of the tracks to feature on the compilation titled ‘City Currach’ by Dominic Voz, also featuring artist Jonathan Sielaff. This mix of ambient textures is a calming blend of harp sounds mixed together with synth-infused notes. A mellow and somewhat cosmic combination of acoustic and electronic makes this release the perfect background atmosphere for a rainy day inside spent doing something creative. Dominic is a jazz enthusiast who is also inspired by a stellar range of acts including Matmos, Jim O’Rourke, Ikue Mori, Mouse on Mars & Holly Herndon.
Dominic Voz adds: “ ‘City Currach’ is a piece from my upcoming album called Right to the City. In some ways, the piece is a respite from more frenetic compositions. The song began as a jam with Jonathan and I built it up from there. As with all of the songs on this album, there are markers of contested urban space – sirens, a broken sounding drum machine, re-pitched scrubs from a spoken word recording. A currach is a primitive type of Celtic boat… the song felt like a sort of slow motion tour of some of the emotional urban landscapes that the album explores, and that’s how I landed at the title. The song still has an air of mystery to me — in part because of the character of Jonathan’s melodies. The assemblage of classical timbres, glitched electronics, and voice is also emblematic of the album as a whole.”
