With Echoes in Bloom due May 31st, Lomea has released the albums second track ‘Reach’ via Here and Now Recordings.
Cascading strings flow in as ‘Reach’ opens, a bassline soon creeping in underneath the layers of delicate picking before the track breaks into infectious percussion. While gritty synths and off-kilter hits attack from all angles, the song maintains a remarkable openness and lightness throughout. Near the halfway mark, the track descends into a passage of unrelenting kicks, tribal drums, crisp claps and glacial synths. It feels like a free-fall through the darkness until we finally emerge into the light, floating on the spacious, cold synths that expand outwards and ease us into a body of silence.
It is a bustling single, far more animated than the contemplative ‘You Are Your Memories’, the first single and the second to last track on Echoes in Bloom. ‘Reach’ provides a further taste of what to expect from Lomea’s sophomore album and a brief insight its tonal and thematic progression.
