If the turmoil of the past two years could be summed into one heart wrenching song, it would definitely be musical group Jet-G’s single ‘Give Me Air’. Released via Future London, this track is a gripping lyrical masterpiece that will leave you bewitched with its beautifully lingering sadness and rich instrumental keys. Jet-G is made up of electronic duo Jolliffe, singer ECKOES, Modestep founder Tony Terror and bass duo GENTRY. Clearly packed with talent and range, each artist involved showcases their flair for their craft on ‘Give Me Air’. The result is a magical track that will have you feeling heard and probably have you obsessing over the colder season approaching the Northern hemisphere. Definitely the perfect atmospheric soundtrack for rain clouds and grey skies.

We chatted with this dynamic band and found out more about the creation of this stellar track.

Sum up your year so far in two words.

Fresh start.

Tell us more about how your latest/upcoming release was conceptualized?

It was weird because Gentry played the piano while Jolliffe was producing it in real-time & ECKOES conjured up the melody & lyrics – and we were all trying to articulate the same thing. The same feeling. It was one of those moments.

The words of the song have impactful lyrics like: “I never knew why my heart couldn’t rest”. What was the emotional intention behind the song?

It’s that lingering feeling of discomfort, lying awake at night but not being sure exactly what’s wrong. The feeling of constricted lungs and not being able to fully breathe, then searching for what that freedom is to you – what’s your air.

Describe a typical day in your studio space.

Play piano, mash up what we record, sing, produce, eat, laugh, repeat.

ECKOES previously mentioned this about the track “ …The songs were kind of accidental, but within a few hours, the bones of two singles had been recorded.” What are the bones of the single?

The bones were that beautiful heavy piano, the distorted vortex in the middle & the melody with that repeated line ‘Give Me Air”. Then the rest was just fine-tuning after.

What are the most important pieces of equipment for you?

An upright piano & Ableton live.

Describe what an ideal day would be for you?

Waking up somewhere warm, a run, then a whole day in the studio starting a brand new fresh idea.

Do you have a favourite memory of your career so far that you will take with you forever?

As a collab, this is our 1st release, so hopefully, we’ll have an answer for you next year.

Who is your musical guilty pleasure?

GENTRY: Meatloaf

ECKOES: Reggaeton

JOLLIFFE: Folk music

What can we expect from you in the near future?

A follow up single next month with some visuals, & a live show.
