Indie Dance Trio Remixes Their Own Track as ASHRR SOUNDSYSTEM

ASHRR SOUNDSYSTEM, the dance alter ego of Los Angeles-based indie dance supergroup ASHRR, unveiled their remix of their single ‘Different Kind of Life’ on June 3rd, 2024 through the renowned UK label 20/20 Vision Recordings. The trio comprises Ethan Allen, a GRAMMY-nominated producer and composer, alongside Josh Charles, a multi-talented musician known for his prowess in piano, guitar, and production, and vocalist Steven Davis. Each member brings a wealth of experience from genres spanning pop, rock, R&B, and big band, synergizing to create a sound greater than the sum of its parts.

Their rendition of ‘Different Kind of Life’ melds diverse influences into a vibrant dance floor anthem, featuring dub-infused vocals, shimmering synths, reverberant guitar riffs, and a pulsating bassline. Beginning with the vocal hook, ASHRR SOUNDSYSTEM reconstructed the track from scratch, infusing it with a dynamic blend of house-like drums, salsoul-inspired percussion, and a touch of dance punk energy.

Released alongside a remix by Italian house and techno luminary Massimiliano Pagliara, the remixes have garnered acclaim from notable figures in the electronic music scene such as Kruder & Dorfmeister, Nightmares on Wax, and Yuksek, underscoring ASHRR SOUNDSYSTEM’s growing influence. Since emerging in 2018, ASHRR has captivated audiences with their distinctive blend of electronic soul, space disco, and indie dance, leading to critical acclaim and a devoted following.

The group shared: “We went into the studio from scratch and started with the vocal hook from the stem of  ‘Different Kind Of Life’. We rebuilt the entirety of the song from the ground up, starting with a driving bass line and house-like drums, while also incorporating salsoul style percussion and a sorta dance punk vibe.”
