Austrian band Hunger have shared their latest single ‘Bubbles’ from their upcoming album Amused.
Produced by Dan Weller (Enter Shikari, Young Guns, Kids in Glass House) the release has seen the trio garner substantial support from tastemakers Earmilk, Red Bull and Indie Shuffle. The band has amassed over five hundred thousand views on Youtube as well as heavy rotation on Austria’s Hitradio Ö3, the New Music Friday Playlist on Spotify, and the Global Viral 50 Chart.
Their sound is an interesting cross-over between synth pop and dark alternative, with strong vocals and a moody atmosphere. Their intention was to create a truly dark and cinematic sound, with standard song structures and melodies disregarded in favor of the tone and evocation of the music.
The bulk of the album was written in an old house in the Vienna countryside, where the band retreated to escape from distractions and focus on their music. “During our time there we tried to disconnect from our routine and focus on the music, and the atmosphere really helped us create the mood of the record” they said.
‘Bubbles’ sees the band exploring their synth-pop tendencies and dabbling on the electronic side of their sound. “‘Bubbles’ is our love anthem about the thin red line in between pain and pleasure” they said of the track.
Although they have a string of live shows under their belt, including Out Of The Woods Festival with the likes of Alt-J, Phoenix, Feist, Sohn, Milky Chance, and The Strumbellas, Hunger have forfeited their touring schedule for the meantime, in favour of time to introspect and create, as they have once again receded into the studio to work on on their next album, due this fall.
