Alaskan Tapes shares song ‘The Times Are Tired’, his new album

Alaskan Tapes has, on July 18th, released ‘The Times Are Tired’, his first single from his fourth full-length album Views From Sixteen Stories, via AT Recordings. Based out of Ontario, Canada, Brady Kendall has been quietly forging his unique sound for about 5 years as Alaskan Tapes, releasing conventional albums, tracks and EPs, and contributing soundtracks to a number of short films.

‘The Times Are Tired’ is a sublime composition showcasing Kendall’s sensibility and ability as a multi-instrumentalist. Opening with delicate guitar playing, the listener soon falls into a pool of strings and caressed drums. Layer upon layer of warm ambience builds before easing out over emotive piano accompaniment and the selfsame guitar pickings that invited the listener in.

Kendall is greatly influenced by literature and, Views From Sixteen Stories, the title of his latest album comes from a recent reading of Chuck Palahniuk’s novel Survivor. Speaking on the conception of ‘The Times Are Tired’, the artist had the following to say:

“The track was heavily inspired by bands like Tarentel, Pan American, and other older post-rock bands. It’s a style I knew I wanted to explore, and knowing I need to bring drums back into my music was nerve-wracking. I hadn’t had drums be the forefront of a track in a few years since my album We All Speak In Poems actually.. with it being the first single, I’m pretty nervous about it. Haha. The name of the track came from a poem by Silvia Plath called ‘The Times Are Tidy’, I often go through poetry books, and stuff like that to get track names and ideas that inspire me.”
