Indie duo, Firewoodisland have released another sterling track. ‘One With The Mountain’ follows on from their previous single ‘Storm’ which has hit over 150k plays on Spotify since its premiere on Atwood Magazine.
Stian Vedøy and Abi Eleri make up the duo, both avid artists and songwriters. Firewoodisland is a direct translation of Stian’s surname. He grew up on Karmøy, a west-coast island in Norway, where his passion for music drove him to pursue his dream by studying music production at university, which led him to Cardiff, Wales where he started the band as a solo music project. He soon met Abi, who had studied illustration, and took over the band’s artwork duties. Her beautiful illustration can be seen on the single’s cover art. The pair haven’t looked back since.
‘One with the Mountain’ sees Firewoodisland embrace their indie-pop influences as they opt to use more electronic instrumentation, while still maintaining their signature folk aesthetic. The single is the first track where Abi takes on main vocal duties.
Speaking of the single, Firewoodisland comment: “One with the Mountain’ has a double meaning. On the one hand, it is inspired by growing up surrounded by nature; how that is a place of solace and escapade, a place to hide from the world. On the other hand, it is a call to see the importance of our planet, being the first generation to know the full extent of the damage we are causing, it motivates us to think about our actions and take responsibility for our little portion.”
